About GG

Gloria Glamont headshotGloria Glamont is a Toronto woman of a ‘certain’ age who writes women’s fiction and business books. She is deeply interested in fashion, but mostly style, which as anyone knows is not the same thing.

She loves a good glass of wine, or dirty martini, three olives please, and couture sewing, and believes that every woman should wear the best shoes and lingerie she can afford. She is a major fan of fashion-related books especially biographies of the designers and those with the best tips for aging fashionably since she knows we’ll all get there some day whether we like it or not.

Gloria Glamont is my pseudonym. 🙂

  1. I am a newcomer to your blog and am enjoying it very much. I see that you work alot with knit/stretch fabrics. Can you suggest a good reference book for working with these type of fabrics. Thank you

    1. I’m delighted that you’re enjoying my blog. Welcome…I do love to sew with knits unless I’m doing something high-end like a Little French Jacket or a cocktail dress (although there are some knits that do work for dressy dresses!). I like Linda Lee’s book “Sewing Knits from Fit to Finish.” In fact, it’s the first one I bought when I started sewing more with knits than wovens. The book doesn’t assume that everyone has a serger which I didn’t when I started working with knits, so provides guidance for using a regular sewing machine as well. I do have a serger now but I never use it for seaming – I’m a two-step person. Sewing machine first, serger second. At that time, I also found “The Fashion Designer’s Textile Directory” by Gail Baugh so that I could learn more about knit fabrics — as well as all other types of textiles. Knowing the different types and their properties has been enormously helpful. Not all knits are the same. Hope this helps.
